Electropolishing is one of the preferred methods of enhancing
corrosion resistance in stainless steel. The electropolishing process removes discoloration
and scale, smoothes the surface profile and reestablishes an oxide film having better corrosion resistance than the naturally
occurring oxides. In the process, the metal is brightened, smoothed, passivated, and deburred.

While electropolishing is best known for the bright polish that is left on a surface,
there are some important, sometimes overlooked benefits of this metal removal method.
These benefits include deburring, size control, microfinish improvement and fulfilling the ASTM B912 standard
for electropolishing.
